Just don't want to

My sweet three-year-old has been suffering with constipation. We didn't experience this with Casey, so we hoped it was just a potty training phase and would pass (ha ha) sooner rather than later.

We were wrong.

I should have called the pediatrician a few months ago, but when you've managed to not kill your older kid, you feel kind of superhuman. I bought him some Pedia-lax chewables, and twice when he hadn't gone for over four days, I used suppositories.

Last week Erik kept waking up crying, telling us his butt hurt. I took him to the doctor yesterday to learn that he has a fissure and that is why he doesn't want to go because IT HURTS!! Just making his constipation issues worse!! Poor little man. So, we are on the road to recovery with Miralax, a more controlled diet and lots of water.

I am grateful for health insurance. I am grateful for Miralax. I am grateful that we were able to stay home with  Erik yesterday and today. Parenting is so much fun.

toilet humor

what a strange word:
toilet...
as if one must toil -
really work hard at it,
all toil and no rest -
when one is there...
Ah, surely whoever
coined this word
must have suffered
of chronic constipation...

Jimmy & Meghan Nicolella

My cousin Meghan was married yesterday! The wedding was beautiful and romantic. I love weddings where you can FEEL how much the couple LOVES one another. The way Jimmy looks at Meghan was enough to let everyone know how much he loves her. Everyone deserves to be loved like that! I am so happy for them.

Married folks!

Amy and I in the fountain at the reception! I was the first one in!!

The (John and Kate Bailey)Wilding ladies! Annie and Jillian. Jillian is at UC Davis, we are excited to have her over soon. Annie lives in San Diego and we will be visiting soon! Love you beautiful ladies!!

They had an artist create this painting of their dog Stella and everyone added a thumbprint (balloon) and signed their name in the balloon! So creative!

Thank you to Mor-Mor and Pop-Pop for watching the boys while we were in Martinez for the wedding! Not only did they take the boys to Fairytale Town, but when we called to say we were on our way back, they told us the boys were going to stay the night at their house!!!! So, instead of racing home we got to Sacramento and stopped to have Sushi at Kru. So yummy! Perfect ending to a terrific day!

Inch by Inch

It has been a LONG week and tonight I will have four kids overnight. I bought two bottles of really good wine today, I should be fine!

But you know what? Pedar and I are going to my cousins Megan's wedding tomorrow!
Megan and Jimmy!!
We will have an entire day together, sans kids. It has been a LONG time. We are going to talk in the car without being interrupted. I'm not going to pack snacks. I'm not going to hold anyone on my hip. I won't have to take anyone to the bathroom or make them a plate or get them a drink. I am going to have LONG conversations.

I'm feeling better about my world today. I know with each day, inch by inch, things will get better. If they don't, I will just hoe out the bad and fertilize the good, right? Have a good weekend!

Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna make this garden grow
All it takes is a rake and a hoe
And a piece of fertile ground

Inch by inch, row by row
Someone bless these seeds I sow
Someone warm them from below
'Til the rain comes tumbling down

Pulling weeds and pickin' stones
Man is made from dreams and bones
Feel the need to grow my own
'Cause the time is close at hand

Grain for grain, sun and rain
Find my way in nature's chain
To my body and my brain
To the music from the land

Plant your rows straight and long
Thicker than with pray'r and song
Mother Earth will make you strong
If you give her love and care

Old crow watchin' hungrily
From his perch in yonder tree
In my garden I'm as free
As that feathered thief up there

Inch by inch, row by row
Someone bless the seeds I sow
Someone warm them from below
'Til the rain comes tumbling down

Change

I don't think it is a coincidence that the last part of the word change almost spells out ANGE-R!
I knew when I signed up for this job that I would be the CHANGE. WHA has never had a Marketing Department and a lot is riding on how well I can make things happen. In the past 11 months I have fired one and hired two. I have made headway on a lot of projects, but I am still so BEHIND. I am frustrated because I feel like I am working very hard and there is still not enough time to get it all done. I have not created several marketing plans and it is showing in the reactions of the departments that want me to "SHOW THEM THE MONEY!" I am so busy getting started on the actual work, that I can't find the time to make the plan. Ugh. I could work at night. I could work on weekends and I guess that I will have to in order to finish this SH*T! I need to be able to take a lunch break and leave by 5:30 p.m. without stressing out so much.

I am going to WISH that I can work a miracle and get a TON done in the next week so I can feel better about my world.  I KNOW my workload is not going to get lighter, but it can get more organized so it FEELS better!! I don't like disappointing people. But what I don't like more is doubting that I am doing my best.

Wish me luck please!!

Doing better

This guy woke up Sunday night with a fever. He was miserable. Pedar stayed home with him on Monday. He is doing better but now Pedar and I have this awful sore throat and we are a wee bit afraid the "strep" might be back!

We should have known he wasn't feeling well because he was a whiny, clingy mess most of the weekend.

He slept for four hours on Monday!!

Eppie's Great Race 2012

Yesterday was Eppie's Great Race! We had four teams and Gavin and Annika participated in the kids duathlon this year. Leif, Sierra, Ava and Lola spent a week in Tahoe and drove down to Sacramento Friday afternoon for a visit and to participate in Eppie's. Sierra ran for me and Leif paddled for his Mom.

These two have matching missing teeth!!

It was HOT but we had fun cheering on the runners!

Well done, Bob!!

Lisa and Jeff hosted a delicious lunch for all the participants and friends after Eppie's. Do yo see the adorable bike, boat and runner?? So cute! Thank you Jeff and Lisa for opening your gorgeous home and feeding us and letting us hang out in your pool ALL DAY!

The Hausman's awesome playhouse!

Ava and Taffy!

We walked the kids to the finish line but it was just too hot to wait around for all the kayakers to cross, so we cheered for a bit and then we headed back to the pool!

Much happier to be swimming than waiting in the heat!

Beautiful Ava
Lovely Lola!
Don't love this picture or me, but I love Lola's smile and I loved playing with her and Ava. I cannot wait to take some better pictures of us when we visit Portland in a few weeks. I promise to get out from behind the camera and put myself in a few so I have memories with my gorgeous nieces.
